You never know...

... what effect your photographs will have.  I took this photograph of an artichoke growing wild on the ranch where my daughter used to care for horses, and I uploaded it to Flickr.com quite a while ago.  Today, I had an email from a writer on a website who was asking my permission to use the photo to illustrate an article she is writing about artichoke recipes.

How cool is that?  And it reminded me that it's one of the great things about sharing your photos online.  People -- more people than you realize -- see your photos.  And who knows what will result.

Several years ago, when I was just starting on Flickr, as a matter of fact, I took a picture of the glass block window in our bathroom.  That photo was not only used (with my permission) in a book about windows (!) but it remains the most-viewed pictures of all of the photos I've posted on flickr.  I have no idea why -- unless it's that people searching for *ss get that in a search?

I've had several people ask to use my photos as their inspirations for artwork.  And I've contacted a flickr photographer asking his permission to interpret his photo as fiber art.

You might think that you're taking pictures and posting them online and no one sees them... but you'd be wrong.  Which is very cool, don't you think?
